All black black tie: an elegant wedding in Montenegro
A historic mansion with a view of the bay, a dinner with a vintage flair, and a techno party on a yacht. Our location is a historic mansion protected by UNESCO, with a courtyard paved in white stone and a view of the Bay of Kotor, resembling a square on a medieval street.
With such a location, we didn’t want to come up with any elaborate concepts – the wedding was meant to be about us: refined elegance and classic style with a vintage flair.
My main wedding dress is by Victoria Labai, a unique piece created especially for me, featuring a voluminous tulle skirt and a very narrow, elongated corset, complemented by a neck scarf. The skirt and corset feature floral lace details.
Wedding Concept
We decided right away that we would have two long tables with candlesticks resembling antiques, classic cream candles, and contrasting red-burgundy floral arrangements. Seventy-five guests flew in from 15 different countries, and the journey was not an easy one, so we wanted to personally thank each person, reminisce about touching moments together, and express our feelings of love and gratitude on paper.
The dress code for the main wedding day was all black black tie – it was the best decision. Everyone approached it with great care, and throughout the day I admired our guests' looks as if they were walking down the red carpet of old Hollywood.
My husband, staying true to tradition, wore a cream Richard James tuxedo and a black bow tie.
The Ceremony
We had a fairly packed schedule, as we also had our church wedding in Kotor that same day. Thus, the journey from Perast to Kotor became part of the entertainment for our guests, as their transfer there and back was arranged by yacht, where the fun and dancing had already begun.
Wedding Evening
We didn't have a host. This is not customary in Europe, so we came up with a small ice-breaker ourselves.
At the start of the cocktail hour before dinner, following tradition, we had a champagne tower, and then we prepared a fun game to help all the guests get to know each other. Spoiler: our friends absolutely loved it.
